Review: Revoltech Gunbuster

Revoltech Gunbuster

Good lord, it’s been no less than five months since my last mecha-related review! Since then this place has fallen to the wiles of these hordes of plastic harlots! I wonder whether if all the mecha-oriented readers have left by this point. I sure hope not, because after a two-month break from reviews, it’s time to reward the faithful. Besides, I can’t let Ashlotte run the show here forever!

THE POSE
"The Pose" – a time-honoured GAINAX tradition.

The 1988 OVA Aim for the Top! (also known as Gunbuster overseas) is gem of the mecha genre. Created by GAINAX, Gunbuster is known for many things. It’s one of the only sci-fi anime to portray the effect of time dilation. It also pioneered the Gainax jiggle – the use of distracting breast physics that we all know and love. But most importantly, it’s known for the gigantic super robot that kill millions of aliens while assuming The Pose, as well as its young pilot Takaya Noriko, whose innocent visage belies the soul of a true badass. Protip: never underestimate the willpower of a girl when blistering lesbian passion is involved.

But we’re not here to talk about lesbians (at least not today) – we’re here for the long-overdue mecha review. Long story short: The Revoltech Gunbuster is a good toy, but it suffers from a very questionable design decision. What do I mean by that? Find out after the jump!

Review: 1/8 Ibuki Suika

Greetings ladies and gents, and welcome to what will hopefully a timely review of a new release, unlike the months old stuff I’ve been chucking out lately! Oh who am I kidding…this is going to be delayed weeks by me dragging my feet on the photography… and there’s also the post-processing after I finally get off my ass and shot her. Oh, and we can’t forget the almost month long bickering between me and Chags about all the little nit picky details of such a simple article! *sobs*

Sigh. Well, putting aside my utter lack of efficient time management, let’s get on with this review of the always adorable little drunkard Ibuki Suika from Griffon Enterprises!

Review: 1/8 Ranka Lee (Nyan-Nyan Ver.)

1/8 MegaHouse Ranka Lee (Nyan-Nyan Ver.) (21)

Hellooooo everyone and welcome to the formerly third part, now second, of our Ranka figure reviews!

Like the last Ranka review we’re looking at another MegaHouse rendition. I find it rather odd that all three mainstream Ranka figures involve MegaHouse, which mostly known for making Queen’s Blade and One Piece figures, while the other figure makers have completely ignored the popular series (Or like one certain company abandoned their plans in the prototype stage…). But odd as it may be, I’m sure we can all be grateful that they’ve filled in the void and I hope to see more from them related to the second Macross Frontier in the future (Come oooon mahou shoujo Ranka)!

Review: 1/8 Ranka Lee (N.A. ver.)

N.A. Ranka

Hola all! Originally I was going to write 3 reviews to commemorate the first Macross Frontier Movie release on DVD, but sadly because of me being me, things got delayed for one reason or another, and now 3 reviews has become 2. And to top it off, we are now celebrating the theatrical release of the second movie instead of the first because — that’ss just how long I’ve been sitting on this review… *cough*

The fact that I’m only doing Ranka reviews has nothing to do with my own personal preferences character-wise, but rather it’s more because I think noone has made a good Sheryl figure yet! As you can imagine, it’s far easier for companies to make cute little Ranka figures instead of successfully capturing the more subtle adult charms of Sheryl, so Ranka shall be who we are focusing on!

N.A. Ranka
"Wardrobe malfunction fun!"

I am quite a Ranka fan. More specifically, I am especially fond of her voice. While Sheryls bombastic songs and voice suits the series almost perfectly, I’ve found it’s Ranka’s songs that I still listen to on a daily basis. They’re all almost perfect pieces of pop indulgence and just work oh-so-perfectly on repeat listenings. So yea…Ranka the character = Meh (Although the Movie improved her character a good deal which I was grateful for). Thankfully, Ranka the performer is quite another thing altogether with her beautiful voice, sweet charm, cute outfits, and of course “Kira!”.

Anyway, with me being the giant perv and DFC afficionado that I am, we shall begin with the figure that has the least amount of clothes!: MegaHouse’s delightfully overexposed N.A. version!
